Downtown Sacramento Farmers’ Market

After recently visiting our local farmers’ markets, Dan and I have decided to make the delicious commitment to buy produce that is grown in and around Sacramento. Located in downtown Sacramento, the weekend markets are abundant with locally-sourced vegetables, fruits, baked goods, and flowers. As we strolled the endless booths from nearby growers, we were amazed by the variety of produce and foods that were available. From meat to eggs to seafood, the downtown markets were brimming with amazing items. Even more exciting, the market allowed us to understand and experience where our food came from. With the numerous seasonal products available from the market, the possibilities for delicious dinners were endless. Leaving with a bag full of farm-fresh vegetables made us so thrilled to start creating meals with our delicious produce. The experience from the Downtown Sacramento Farmers’ Market was so rewarding and turned into amazing, fresh meals. The minute we came home with a bag full of vegetables, we went straight to the kitchen and started creating flavorful masterpieces.

This Week’s Seasonal Vegetables

Every two weeks, we hope to highlight in-season vegetables that can easily be found at local farmers’ markets. With each post, we will show the vegetable that we selected along with a fresh and easy recipe that can be made with the ingredient. Our goal is to cast a spotlight on eating locally, and to give our readers an easy way to eat farm-to-fork using farmers’ market recipes. Given that my dad is a farmer, we believe strongly in using locally-sourced foods. As a farmer’s daughter, I know what goes into growing and cultivating produce. We want to support local farmers in our area by purchasing fresh vegetables and featuring them in flavorful dishes. We also want to show others how to add local produce to their meals. This new adventure to create farmers’ market recipes will not only add fresh, local foods to our cooking, but it will also help you and your family create farm-to-fork dishes in your own home.

Fresh, Vegetable Rich Recipes

As an inspiration for our new cooking endeavor, here is a delicious one-pan recipe that utilizes fresh zucchini noodles and mushrooms. Adding sausage and cream to the crisp zoodles, led to an incredible and fast skillet dinner. We loved how the flavorful sausage simmered in the delicious juices of zucchini and mushrooms. The combination of all ingredients made for the tastiest and easiest one-pan meal.
