I am quite vocal about my poor baking skills. If it is not from a box, I tend to make inedible baking explosions. Even with boxed mixes, I often create a disaster. Dan and I have decided that when we want to make a dessert, Dan is in charge and I can help with the stirring. That way, we do not have a giant mess and a sad ending. However, this dessert was so simple, that I was able to contribute to more than just mixing and licking the bowl. These marbled peanut butter brownies look complicated, but they were one of the simplest desserts we have made so far. With cream cheese, peanut butter and a box of brownie mix, we had a gorgeous and delicious dessert in no time. Check out another great dessert we made with the help of a box, here.

Peanut Butter Brownies Bite

When I was younger, my mom used to sneak medicine into peanut butter. If we ever had a cold or needed antibiotics, we would receive a mysterious spoonful of peanut butter. For years, I avoided peanut butter. Just the smell would make me think that a bitter pill would be coming my way soon. Even in desserts, I would avoid trying peanut butter in fear that I would soon be experiencing a horrible aftertaste. Of course, I knew that that was not the case. However, just the smell would trigger a bitter taste in my mouth. Being married to someone who has peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch has made me realize that I need to embrace this delicious spread. Dan has eased me into enjoying peanut butter by mixing it with fruit and chocolate. When he suggested these marbled brownies, I was a bit skeptical but was distracted by how amazing they looked.

Peanut Butter Brownies Side

Finally as I bravely took a bite, I was completely wowed by the flavor combinations. The creaminess of the cream cheese, paired with the salty peanut butter and the rich chocolate, made for the most amazing bite. I was happily stunned. Most importantly, these brownies were the easiest thing to make. I can imagine a busy mom fooling the PTA with these gems and pretending she slaved away before the bake sale. Or a couple baking these last minute for a get-together and astonishing the crowd. They look so beautiful and yet they are a complete breeze to make.

Peanut Butter Brownies Birdseye

After stirring the batter and pouring it into a Pyrex, the melted cream cheese and peanut butter are simply drizzled on top. Then with a fork, the fun begins, and a gorgeous marbled effect is done without much effort. Make these brownies to wow anyone. They are so easy and are packed with the best flavors. If they got me to become a believer in peanut butter, then they must be good! Enjoy!

Marbled Peanut Butter Brownies

Marbled Peanut Butter Brownies

Ingredients

  • 1 Box Brownie Mix
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Oil
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 cup Peanut Butter, softened for 15 seconds in the microwave
  • 1/4 cup Cream Cheese, softened for 15 seconds in the microwave

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the mix, water, oil and egg. Stir until smooth. Pour batter into a greased Pyrex (ours is 9x13).
  3. Slightly melt the peanut butter and cream cheese in separate dishes. With a spoon, drizzle them one at a time over the brownies. With a fork or the end of a utensil, drag it through the batter and lightly pull it from one side to the other. When coming to the end of the Pyrex, you can either remove the utensil or circle back to create another long line. This can be continued until a desired marbled effect is created.
  4. Bake the brownies for at least 28 minutes, depending on altitude and baking dish. Cut into squares and enjoy!
