What is it about cooking Chinese food that is so intimidating? Before I start cooking any Chinese dish, I feel like I need to do some sort of crazy ritualistic routine to ensure that my meal will come out tasty. I often think to myself, maybe if I spin twice, touch my nose with my elbow and then scream, “Let’s do this” I will be able to pull it off. Well, instead of this bizarre routine, I have a better solution for creating no-fail Chinese food. Sometimes it is a simple recipe that totally does the trick! That is completely the case for this super fast and delicious honey orange chicken.

Super quick and super flavorful, this spicy and sweet chicken is ready in just 20 minutes!

Whenever I eat good Chinese food, I catch myself thinking, I could never do this in my own kitchen. Maybe it is because I only had Chinese food in restaurants growing up and never saw my mom attempt to whip it up at home. Boy, I wish she did, because imagining her do the spinning and screaming routine is quite amusing! However, I have decided that Chinese food is pretty simple as long as you do not let it intimidate you.

Rather than crossing my fingers and holding my breath, I used the method of confidence to pull off this deceivingly simple recipe. Even when clumps of cornstarch were whirling in the air and my countertop was dripping with disagreeable honey, I kept my self-talk positive. After just 20 (yes, 20) minutes of cooking, I was able to see a masterpiece emerge, right before my own eyes.

My favorite thing about this honey orange chicken is that it is tastes better than what I would expect to come out of my kitchen. What I mean, is that I was completely floored by the fact that this chicken rocked! And I made it! Who knew?! Maybe just coming up with a super easy recipe was all I needed to pull off Chinese food!

Easy Honey Orange Chicken

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Serving Size: 2-3 Servings

Easy Honey Orange Chicken

Ingredients

  • 2 Chicken Breasts, diced
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Sriracha
  • 2 tablespoons Orange Juice
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • Green Onions, chopped for garish
  • Sesame Seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium sauce pan, combine the water, sriracha, orange juice, honey, soy sauce, garlic, and sugar. Mix until thoroughly blended. Bring mixture to a boil. Whisk in 3 tablespoons of corn starch until fully mixed. Pour the sauce into a pan on low heat and stir.
  2. Coat diced chicken with remaining corn starch (5 tablespoons). Add chicken to the pan with the sauce. Cover the chicken with the sauce and cook until chicken is fully cooked through. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve with rice and enjoy!
